Nature Conservation Fund

As part of South Norfolk Council's commitment to support nature recovery, and connect residents to accessible greenspaces, they are running a 'Nature Conservation Fund'.

This scheme allows Town and Parish Councils, community groups, charities, schools and landowners in South Norfolk to receive up to £10,000 for biodiversity projects. There are five grants available.

Funds will be awarded to projects that best meet the following criteria:

  • Carbon sequestration: Projects that actively contribute to tackling carbon emissions.

  • Biodiversity benefit: Initiatives that enhance local ecosystems and support a diverse range of plant and animal life.

  • Public accessibility to greenspace: Creating and improving green spaces that are accessible and enjoyable for the entire community.

Nature Recovery in Harleston are working with local groups and environmental organisations to submit an application for Harleston. This will be a collective programme involving people from Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Suffolk Wildlife Trust, Waveney Volunteers for Nature, University of East Anglia. It has the support of District and County Councillors.

Details are still emerging but initial thoughts involve a mini forest, pond, wildflowers, nest boxes, a circular walk with seating and information boards.

Nature conservation and recovery is not a competition, we all have the same goals. This project will bring together many groups to work as one team.
