A May Flower

Updated: Apr 25, 2023

The Lily of the Valley is the May birth Flower. According to the Rev Calpin in 'Flora of Harleston', written in 1888, the Lily of the Valley was recorded in nearby woods.

Harleston has an association with another May flower, the Mayflower and the pilgrim fathers which sailed to America in 1620. Four of the 102 passengers were from Harleston. They were the Fuller family. There is even a Fullers Society in America which can trace their ancestry back over 400 years to their roots in Harleston. Not many towns can claim such an association.

Two mayflowers, One town.
